It’s 1942, “Big Band” leader Johnny Fontaine is touring California with his USO Show. He is broadcasting by radio, and traveling by train with his cast and crew, to promote his next appearance. Everyone is excited because Johnny is about to unveil a special event, a singing contest to replace the band’s lead singer.
Enter Vicki Carlson, Hollywood celebrity and singer for the Johnny Fontaine Band. Her days of touring are almost over as she has set her sights for a recording contract with RKO.
